Finding My Place in the Current: Why High Tide Theatrical Feels Like Coming Home

Hello everyone, I’m Nicholas Horne, and I’m incredibly excited to introduce myself as the Vice President of the board and the current Development Chair for High Tide Theatrical. For me, joining High Tide has felt like a true homecoming, a place where my lifelong passion for the arts beautifully aligns with my deep-rooted commitment to our Springfield community and the wider 417 land.
Like many of you, I’ve always felt the pull of the stage, the magic of storytelling, and the profound connection that live theatre fosters. But beyond the artistic allure, I’ve also held a strong vision for community engagement. High Tide Theatrical is the nexus of these two vital aspects of my life. One of the most compelling draws for me is our company’s dedication to partnering with the incredible non-profits and local agencies that work tirelessly to build a better community and enhance the value of our shared spaces. We believe that art isn’t created in a vacuum; it thrives in connection, and we are eager to weave ourselves into the fabric of Springfield.
Speaking of shared spaces and connection, I can’t help but smile (and maybe chuckle a little at the memory of some seriously uncomfortable seating) when I think back to our recent “Take a Seat” fundraising campaign. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we raised over $5,000 to replace our decidedly uncushy theatre chairs! Let’s just say, that’s a whole lot of relieved asses making for a much more enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
But beyond the sheer comfort upgrade, that campaign created something truly special. There’s a unique beauty in walking into our theatre and seeing seats bearing the names of some of our most dedicated fans, and even those lovingly dedicated in memory of cherished individuals who believed in the power of the arts. It’s a tangible reminder of the community that is building here, a testament to the passion and support that fuels our vision. That first fundraising effort truly embodied what we hope High Tide will always be: The People’s Theater.
And it’s with that same spirit of community and shared investment – that I want to introduce you to our next step in building this vibrant home for bold storytelling: The Rising Tide Society. This membership program is your opportunity to become an even more vital part of our journey, to directly fuel our mission to produce bold, high-quality theatre, expand our programming, elevate our productions, and provide more opportunities for artists and audiences alike. By joining the Rising Tide Society, you’re not just supporting the arts; you’re becoming a foundational part of “The People’s Theater,” ensuring that we can continue to make a real impact right here in Springfield.
