Theater for All: High Tide’s Inclusive Hand to God

Experience Hand to God in a Relaxed Performance
On Saturday, March 29th at 2:00 PM, we’re proud to present a Relaxed Performance of the acclaimed play Hand to God. This unique production is tailored to ensure that everyone—especially those with autism, sensory sensitivities, or other social, learning, or cognitive disabilities—can experience the transformative power of live theater in a comfortable, welcoming environment.
Why a Relaxed Performance?
At High Tide, we believe that art should be accessible to all. Our Relaxed Performances are designed with thoughtful modifications that create a supportive atmosphere, removing traditional barriers to enjoying the arts. For our upcoming performance of Hand to God, we’re making several adjustments, including:
Lower Sound Levels: To ensure that the auditory experience is gentle and not overwhelming.
Soft Lighting: Lights will remain on at a low level throughout the performance, creating a calming ambiance.
Reduced Strobe Effects: We’ve minimized strobe lighting and avoided directing intense light toward the audience.
Flexible Seating: Guests are welcome to talk, move around, and even leave their seats as needed.
Ample Space: We’ve arranged the venue to allow for standing and movement, ensuring comfort for everyone.
What Makes Hand to God Special?
High Tide’s production of Hand to God offers more than just a performance—it presents an experience. This dark comedy, known for its razor-sharp wit and unexpected twists, tells the story of a young man whose relationship with his hand puppet spirals into a humorous yet thought-provoking exploration of personal identity and creative expression. The play’s edgy humor and dynamic energy are a perfect match for a relaxed setting, allowing guests to engage with the performance on their own terms without the usual theatrical constraints.
The modifications we’re implementing are especially significant for a show like Hand to God, where the intensity of the performance can sometimes be challenging for some audience members. By adapting the sensory elements of the production, we’re ensuring that everyone can enjoy the humor, creativity, and emotional depth of the play.
